Efavirenz is used to treat HIV, a virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This medicine is for adults and children who are at least 3 months old and weigh at least 8 pounds. It is not a cure for HIV or AIDS. This is in a class of medications called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
