Entecavir is a guanosine nucleoside analogue with strong activity against the hepatitis B virus. Once activated in cells it inhibits HBV polymerase at three steps of viral replication.
It is approved for chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults with evidence of active viral replication and either raised liver enzymes or active liver inflammation, including patients with compensated or decompensated liver disease, and for children from two years of age. It is not used to treat HIV, and patients with both infections need a regimen that treats HIV as well. The originator brand is Baraclude, and entecavir is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.
Entecavir and tenofovir are the two medicines most widely recommended as first-line treatment of chronic hepatitis B, and both are in our catalog, so hepatology buyers can compare them in one quotation. Our catalog lists 0.5mg and 1mg tablets. The tablets are kept at room temperature and ship without a cold chain. State the strength and quantity when you enquire.
Entecavir is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
