About insulin glargine: drug class and approved uses

Insulin glargine is a long-acting basal insulin analogue. Changes to the insulin molecule make it form micro-precipitates under the skin, from which it is released slowly, giving a relatively flat insulin level over a day.

It is approved to improve glycaemic control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes and in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is supplied at two concentrations: 100 units per ml (originator brand Lantus, with biosimilars) and 300 units per ml (Toujeo). The two concentrations are not bioequivalent, so switching between them is done under medical supervision with dose adjustment.

Our catalog lists the 300 units per ml product, so state the concentration and device you need. Unopened pens and cartridges are stored refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C, so shipments travel in temperature-controlled packaging, usually with a data logger. Metformin, dapagliflozin, empagliflozin and semaglutide are also in our catalog. Tell us the quantity and destination when you enquire.

Insulin Glargine is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
