Carboplatin is a platinum-based cytotoxic medicine. Like cisplatin, it forms cross-links in DNA that stop cancer cells from dividing, but it has a different side-effect profile.
Its labelled approvals are for advanced ovarian carcinoma, both as initial treatment in combination with other agents and after prior chemotherapy, and in some countries for small cell lung cancer. It is usually kept at room temperature, protected from light.
