Short answer
Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) used for HIV-1 infection and, with tenofovir, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Towada Products exports it from New Delhi, India, supplying 10 brands, including Emtaf, Ricovir and Spegra (combination products) to licensed buyers in Southeast Asia, the CIS region, the Middle East and select markets in Europe and Africa. Pricing is on enquiry.
Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), a cytidine analogue. Once activated inside cells it is built into the viral DNA chain by HIV reverse transcriptase and stops the chain from growing.
It is approved for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretrovirals. With tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (originator brand Truvada) it is also approved for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV-1, and in the United States emtricitabine with tenofovir alafenamide (Descovy) is approved for PrEP in some groups. Emtricitabine alone is sold as Emtriva, but it is mostly used in fixed-dose combinations.
All the products in our catalog are fixed-dose combinations, with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate or tenofovir alafenamide, in some cases with a third medicine such as efavirenz. Emtricitabine and lamivudine act in the same way and are not used together. The tablets are kept at room temperature and ship without a cold chain. Tell us the exact combination and pack size when you enquire.
Emtricitabine is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
