Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), a cytidine analogue. It is active against both HIV and the hepatitis B virus, blocking the enzymes they use to copy their genetic material.
It is approved for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretrovirals, and, at a lower strength sold as a separate product (originator brands Zeffix and Epivir-HBV), for chronic hepatitis B. The originator brand for HIV is Epivir. Lamivudine is a backbone of many fixed-dose combinations, including tenofovir, lamivudine and dolutegravir (TLD), tenofovir, lamivudine and efavirenz (TLE), abacavir with lamivudine, and zidovudine with lamivudine, and it is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.
Most lamivudine products in our catalog are combination tablets, with a smaller number of single-ingredient tablets. The HIV and hepatitis B strengths are different, so state which you need. Emtricitabine acts in the same way and is not combined with lamivudine. The tablets are kept at room temperature and ship without a cold chain.
Lamivudine is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
