About trastuzumab emtansine: drug class and approved uses

Trastuzumab emtansine, also called T-DM1, is an antibody-drug conjugate. It links the HER2 antibody trastuzumab to DM1, a potent microtubule inhibitor, so the cytotoxic payload is delivered mainly to cells that over-express HER2.

It is approved for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer in patients previously treated with trastuzumab and a taxane, and as adjuvant treatment of HER2-positive early breast cancer in patients with residual invasive disease after neoadjuvant taxane and trastuzumab-based treatment. It is not interchangeable with trastuzumab or with other HER2 antibody-drug conjugates. The originator brand is Kadcyla.

Trastuzumab emtansine is supplied as powder for infusion in single-use vials and stored refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C, so shipments travel in temperature-controlled packaging. Heart function and liver function are monitored during treatment. Trastuzumab, lapatinib and paclitaxel are also in our catalog. Our catalog lists the 100mg vial. Tell us the quantity and whether you need a data logger. Oncology day-care units and hospital pharmacies are the main buyers.

Trastuzumab Emtansine is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
