Trastuzumab is a humanised monoclonal antibody that binds the HER2 receptor on the surface of cancer cells. Tumours that over-express HER2 depend on its signals to grow, and trastuzumab blocks that signalling and marks the cells for attack by the immune system.
It is approved for HER2-positive early breast cancer, as part of adjuvant or neoadjuvant treatment; for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, alone or with a taxane or an aromatase inhibitor; and, with chemotherapy, for HER2-positive metastatic adenocarcinoma of the stomach or gastro-oesophageal junction. Eligibility depends on a validated HER2 test. The originator brand is Herceptin, and several biosimilars, including Indian biosimilars, are approved. Trastuzumab is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.
Trastuzumab is a biological medicine supplied as powder for infusion in vials, stored refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C, so shipments travel in temperature-controlled packaging. Biosimilar and originator brands are separate products, so state the brand you need. Paclitaxel, docetaxel and trastuzumab emtansine are also in our catalog. Tell us the vial strength and whether you need a data logger.
Trastuzumab is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
