Short answer
Clopidogrel is a P2Y12 antiplatelet medicine used for preventing heart attack and stroke in people with acute coronary syndrome, recent heart attack or stroke, or peripheral arterial disease. Towada Products exports it from New Delhi, India, supplying Clavix and Clopiros (1 single-ingredient product in the 75mg strength and 1 combination) to licensed buyers abroad. Pricing is on enquiry.
Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet medicine of the thienopyridine class. It is a prodrug whose active form irreversibly blocks the P2Y12 receptor on platelets, preventing ADP from activating them.
It is approved to reduce the rate of heart attack and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome, together with aspirin, including those treated with a stent; and in patients with a recent heart attack, recent ischaemic stroke or established peripheral arterial disease. In Europe it is also approved with aspirin in atrial fibrillation for patients who cannot take an anticoagulant. The originator brand is Plavix, and clopidogrel is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.
Clopidogrel is converted to its active form by the liver enzyme CYP2C19, so its effect is reduced in people with low CYP2C19 activity, and some medicines that inhibit this enzyme are avoided. Our catalog lists clopidogrel tablets and a combination with aspirin. Atorvastatin and other cardiovascular medicines are listed too. The tablets are kept at room temperature.
Clopidogrel is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
