About hydroxychloroquine: drug class and approved uses
Hydroxychloroquine is a 4-aminoquinoline, closely related to chloroquine. It acts against malaria parasites in red blood cells, and in autoimmune diseases it modulates the immune system, partly by interfering with signalling inside immune cells.
It is approved for rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and chronic discoid lupus erythematosus, and for the prevention and treatment of malaria caused by susceptible parasites, although resistance limits its use in many regions. In some countries it is also approved for juvenile idiopathic arthritis and photosensitive skin conditions. The originator brand is Plaquenil. Regulators have not approved it for treating COVID-19.
Long-term treatment is accompanied by regular eye examinations, because of the risk of retinal damage. Hydroxychloroquine is often prescribed with other antirheumatic medicines; tofacitinib, apremilast and prednisolone are also in our catalog. The tablets are kept at room temperature and ship without a cold chain. State the strength and quantity when you enquire.
Hydroxychloroquine is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
