About cyclophosphamide: drug class and approved uses
Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent of the nitrogen mustard class. It is activated in the liver to compounds that cross-link DNA, killing dividing cells, and it also suppresses the immune system.
It is approved for a wide range of cancers, including Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, multiple myeloma, leukaemias, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, neuroblastoma and retinoblastoma, usually as part of combination regimens. In the United States it is also approved for biopsy-proven minimal-change nephrotic syndrome in children, and in clinical practice it is used for some severe autoimmune diseases. It is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. The originator brand is Endoxan (Cytoxan in the US).
Our catalog lists cyclophosphamide 1000mg powder for injection, given in hospital, and 50mg tablets; both are handled under cytotoxic safe-handling procedures. Doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisolone, combined with cyclophosphamide in common lymphoma regimens, and rituximab are also listed. State the vial strength and quantity when you enquire.
Cyclophosphamide is a prescription medicine, and whether it is suitable for a patient is a decision for the treating doctor. This page describes the medicine for trade buyers; it is not medical advice.
